About Us
The Crystal River Woman’s Club was founded in 1921 and continues to serve our community and Citrus County through supporting arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging civic involvement, as well as issues related to domestic and sexual violence awareness/prevention, and advocating for children.
Dedicated to Ending Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.
Our History
Our club has left some lasting impressions on our community and state – establishing what is now known at the Coastal Region Library, planting the oak trees along Crystal Street, and donating the Yulee Sugar Mill historical site to the state. We also joined with the Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs to establish the Royal Palm State Park which became the nucleus of the Everglades National Park. Our organization fought for the Women’s Right to Vote, fought for child labor laws, and for safe food and water regulations among many others.
Our Clubs
We also have a smaller group of developmentally disabled women - members who are known as Women Helping Woman and are mentored by our Club members. They meet weekly to learn life skills, visit places of interest, and also serve our community. Both groups are populated by amazing women!

The leadership team of the Crystal River Woman’s Club is dedicated to upholding the ideals of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and remains deeply committed to serving the Crystal River community with purpose, integrity, and heart.
President
Becky Culver
Becky Culver, President of the Crystal River Woman’s Club, leads with passion and enthusiasm for programs that uplift the community and reflect the ideals of the GFWC. A proud third-generation member, she is celebrating 15 years of service while honoring the legacy of her grandmother and mother. Dedicated to causes close to her heart, Becky is especially committed to advancing the cure and treatment of Alzheimer’s through the club’s partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association.
Treasurer
Gloria Barber
Gloria Barber, Treasurer of the Crystal River Woman’s Club, became a member of our Club in 2021 after moving to Crystal River from Tallahassee, and she also retains her membership in the Woman’s Club of Tallahassee. Gloria is committed to keeping our financial records up to date and in compliance with all rules and regulations while still participating in many of our Club programs. She loves the friendships she has made through the Club and the opportunities to meet so many other people in Citrus County through our events and activities.
First Vice-President
Leslie Martineau
Leslie Martineau has been a member since 2008. She has made many friends at our GFWC Crystal River Woman's Club.. She says,
"Being a volunteer is one of the best things I do."
She enjoys helping out our community and friends. For many years, she has been in charge of our Annual Appreciation Luncheon for Lady Veterans.
As First Vice President, she is responsible for reporting to GFWC Florida.
Second Vice-President
Michele Conley
Michele Conley, Second Vice-President of the Crystal River Woman’s Club, has been a member for three years and is responsible for providing programs for our meetings. A retired healthcare foundation professional with over 30 years of experience, she served 12 years as Executive Director of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation, leading major hospital expansions and innovative senior programs. Now a Homosassa resident, Michele continues her lifelong commitment to service through leadership, philanthropy, and community engagement.
Recording Secretary
JoAnne Boggus
JoAnne Boggus, Recording Secretary of the Crystal River Woman’s Club, has been a proud member for sixteen years. A retired English teacher and high school principal from Fort Lauderdale, she now lives in Sugarmill Woods with her husband, Zell, and treasures the friendships and community spirit fostered through CRWC. She is especially passionate about the club’s current efforts supporting Alzheimer’s research and respite care in Citrus County.
Corresponding Secretary
Phylis Koppman
Phylis Koppman, Corresponding Secretary, has been a member for four years. She loves to help out wherever there is a need. Her favorite area of service is Women Helping Women.
